While the UFC remains the biggest promotion on the planet, other promotions such as Bellator MMA and ONE Championship are gaining a real footholds, while new promotions like Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy MMA continue to pop up. UFC color commentator Joe Rogan has taken notice of these promotions. Speaking on a recent Fight Companion episode of his popular Joe Rogan Experience podcast, he gave his take on a number of the UFC’s competitors.

Two days ago, a pretty surprising matchup was announced as former middleweight king Anderson Silva was announced to be making his return against the rising contender, Israel Adesanya at UFC 234 in February. Adesanya just recently dispatched of Derek Brunson at UFC 230 who also happens to be Silva’s last opponent as well.

Jon Jones is arguably one of the greatest fighters of all-time. However, for the former UFC light heavyweight champion, many believe his legacy is tarnished. Jones has been suspended three times with two of them being due to USADA. In which Jones has been stripped of his light heavyweight title twice, and the interim title once. Now, Jones has put all that behind him and will return to fight Alexander Gustafsson for the light heavyweight title at UFC 232 on December 29.

Back in October, former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor finally returned to the Octagon, taking on reigning UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in his first mixed martial arts bout in more than two years. Unfortunately for McGregor and his throngs of fans, this return to action did not go as planned, as he was tapped out by Nurmagomedov in the fourth round. Since then, Conor McGregor has claimed several times that he does plan on fighting again. Given the mountains of wealth he’s sitting on and the many side projects that keep him busy outside the cage, however, these claims are often met with a degree of skepticism.

The year 2018 has not been particularly kind to Hawaii’s Yancy Medeiros. After coming up short to Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in February, the fan favorite sought to get back on track opposite “Platinum” Mike Perry at UFC 226 in July. Regrettably, this plan was derailed when he sustained a rib injury, and he has not fought since.

Mike Perry fought mere weeks ago, losing by first-round submission to Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone on the Denver card, but he’s already itching to get back in there. And he’s even got an opponent in mind. ”[Cerrone] was in the gym with Gracie Barra drilling in the gi, grappling all the time,” Mike Perry told ESPN recently. “He was with Mickey Gall too, let’s fight that motherf**ker. I’ll fight Mickey Gall. F**k Mickey Gall. I’m gonna get into the gym, go grapple, and I’m gonna crush everybody from here on out.”

Tito Ortiz was finally able to exact some revenge on long time nemesis and fellow MMA legend Chuck Liddell on Saturday night in Los Angeles. After suffering stoppage losses in his first two encounters with the Iceman long ago at UFC 47 and UFC 66, Ortiz was at last able to get the better of Liddell twenty-four hours ago at The Forum in Inglewood.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is rarely afraid to share his opinions on his fellow fighters. On Sunday afternoon, that’s just what the MMA legend did, this time taking aim at his former opponent Rashad Evans, and at UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell. Rashad Evans was the first of Jon Jones’ targets. Apparently, Evans recently made some comments that implied Jones was using performance-enhancing drugs when they fought, and that Jones’ 2016 fight with Ovince Saint Preux was the only time he’s fought without these substances in the UFC’s Octagon.

On December 29, in the co-main event of UFC 232, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will move up a weight class to challenge dominating UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg for her title. Sitting at the commentary booth for this fight will be long-time UFC staple Joe Rogan. Like most members of the MMA community, Joe Rogan agrees that Amanda Nunes is in for a very difficult night of work against Cris Cyborg. That being said, he feels the bantamweight champion can defeat the featherweight champion with the right game plan.

UFC color commentator Joe Rogan was not on duty for Saturday’s UFC Beijing broadcast, and instead hosted one of his popular Fight Companion podcasts for the card, alongside his friends Brendan Schaub, Bryan Callen and Eddie Bravo. As you can probably imagine, the whole gang was quite impressed by the UFC Beijing main event, which saw former UFC heavyweight title challenger Francis Ngannou rebound from losses to Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis with a thunderous, first-round knockout of streaking American wrestler Curtis Blaydes.

Alistair Overeem snapped his two fight losing skid at today’s UFC Beijing event and picked up a nice payday for his efforts. “The Reem” handed Sergey Pavlovich the first loss of his professional mixed martial arts career via first-round TKO in today’s UFC Fight Night 141 co-headliner.

A heavyweight tilt between perennial division contenders Curtis Blaydes and Francis Ngannou headlined today’s UFC Beijing event. The bout served as a rematch, as Francis Ngannou and Curtis Blaydes had previously met at UFC Fight Night 86 in April of 2016, with “The Predator” emerging victorious by way of second-round TKO (doctors stoppage).
