Pros react to tonight’s Ben Askren vs. Robbie Lawler fight at UFC 235

By Christopher Taylor - March 2, 2019

A welterweight bout between former MMA champions Ben Askren and Robbie Lawler took place on the main card of tonight’s UFC 235 event from Las Vegas.

Ben Askren, Robbie Lawler

The former Bellator and ONE champion, Ben Askren, was making his promotional debut tonight against “Ruthless”.

The bout marked Askren’s first since November of 2017, where he defeated Shinya Aoki under the ONE banner.

Meanwhile, Robbie Lawler entered tonight’s contest looking to rebound after suffering a decision loss to Rafael dos Anjos in his most recent outing.

Askren came out quickly looking for a takedown. However, Lawler ended up slamming Ben to the floor and then began to unload some savage ground and pound. Askren would eventually weather the storm and get back to his feet. Soon after Askren would take Robbie to the floor and get his back. Lawler scrambled out of a rear-naked choke attempt but got caught in a Bulldog choke. The referee thought he saw Lawler’s arm go limp and unfortunately stepped in and called the bout prematurely.

Check out how the pros reacted to tonight’s disappointing finish below.
