Rachael Ostovich vs Paige VanZant fight remains in tact for UFC Brooklyn

By Drake Riggs - November 27, 2018

Despite recently going through a tougher personal battle than any she could have in the Octagon, UFC flyweight prospect Rachael Ostovich will remain set to fight at UFC Brooklyn on January 19.

Last week, Ostovich was involved in an altercation with her husband and fellow MMA fighter, Arnold Berdon that resulted in her being attacked and suffering what was reported as a broken orbital bone among other injuries.

Since then, Berdon has been arrested on the charges of second-degree murder attempt which would be reclassified as a second-degree assault shortly after. Berdon has also been released on a $75,000 bond.

Because of this incident, it was expected that Ostovich was surely no longer able to fight at her upcoming fight date of January 19 against Paige VanZant. However, the fight is still planned to go down as ESPN’s Brett Okamoto first confirmed. VanZant and Ostovich would also confirm the news shortly after.

Breaking: Rachael Ostovich vs. Paige VanZant is back on for UFC Fight Night on Jan. 19 in Brooklyn. Ostovich never wanted to pull out of the fight and sought a second opinion on her injuries this week, per her manager Brian Butler-Au. Full story coming soon to @ESPN.

Gods plan 🙏🏼💪🏻

Ostovich’s manager Brian Butler-Au also shared his comments on the whole situation with ESPN.

“She never really wanted to be off of this fight,” Butler-Au said. “When everything happened, it was very emotional. The injuries were significant enough that, combined with the emotions of everything that was going down, we made a decision to pull out of the fight.

“Now that things are settling out and the swelling of the injury is going down, Rachael got a second opinion and everything will work out to where she can keep this fight.”

UFC Brooklyn is going to be the UFC’s first event on ESPN+ and will act as Rachael Ostovich’s third UFC appearance and VanZant’s eighth.

For Paige VanZant, by the time that fight night comes around, she will have not fought for a whole year. The reason for that being due to suffering a badly broken arm in her bout with Jessica-Rose Clark at UFC St. Louis.
