Rafael dos Anjos bashes Conor McGregor, Justin Bieber for recent comments

By Tom Taylor - June 11, 2019

In the span of a few hours on Sunday, pop star Justin Bieber called for a UFC fight with actor Tom Cruise, and former two-division champion Conor McGregor offered to promote it. Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, like many members of the MMA community, finds all of this completely ridiculous.

In fact, he wishes he could go back in time to an era where things like this were a little less common.

Rafael dos Anjos sounded off on this strange bit of news on his official Twitter account.

“Justin Bieber wants to brawl Tom Cruise and McGregor wants to promote the freak show, I wanna go back in time #nutellageneration” – Rafael dos Anjos on Twitter.

Dos Anjos isn’t the only fighter to have a negative reaction to this McGregor-Bieber-Cruise weirdness. Former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz also chimed in, scolding Conor McGregor for calling for a fight with actor Mark Wahlberg.

“Why would you wanna fight someone who can’t fight,” the former Strikeforce champion wrote in a recent post to his Instagram story (via Bloody Elbow). “What a piece off shit! Same as beating someone with handcuffs on.”

Rafael dos Anjos and Conor McGregor have plenty of history together. In 2016, McGregor, then the featherweight champion, was briefly scheduled to challenge dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight title. In the end, however, dos Anjos was forced out of the bout with a foot injury, and replaced by Nate Diaz.

Even years later, McGregor and dos Anjos still occasionally trade trash talk over their cancelled bout — one recent example occurring after dos Anjos beat Kevin Lee last month.
