Report | UFC 236 zeroing in on main event, two locations in mind
Next week will be the big UFC 235 fight week as Jon Jones looks to make his first successful title defense since recapturing the gold at the end of 2018.
However, the pay-per-view that will follow that one is UFC 236 which takes place on April 13… At least it’s expected to.
The only problem is that the event has yet to have a location announced along with any fights outside of the bantamweight clash between Boston Salmon and Khalid Taha.
There are quite a couple of options out there for big fights that could wind up on the card, yet all we have right now is speculation accompanied by some recent teasing from Max Holloway.
With UFC 235 set for Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena, that venue is out of the equation. UFC 237 is set for Curitiba, Brazil while UFC 238 lands in the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Today on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Ariel Helwani reported that the UFC is getting close to figuring out the UFC 236 headliner along with narrowing the location down to two possibilities.
“On #HelwaniShow, @arielhelwani says that the UFC
“Has heard New York and Abu Dhabi as potential locations, but nothing confirmed at this time.” Aaron Bronsteter tweeted.
If the UFC goes to Abu Dhabi for UFC 236, it would be their first time back in the city since April 2014 when Antonio Rogerio ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira took on Roy Nelson.
The only other time that the UFC has touched down in Abu Dhabi was for UFC 112 in April 2010 when Anderson Silva defended his middleweight title against Demian Maia and BJ Penn lost the lightweight title to Frankie Edgar.
