Report | UFC 237 clash between Jose Aldo and Alexander Volkanovski in the works
When it comes to the best divisions in the UFC right now, there are several that one could name and argue as the very best. And when having that discussion, it would be wrong to not at the very least mention the 145-pound featherweight class.
For many years, the division was locked down by a single Brazilian king. That being none other than the once nicknamed “Scarface” Jose Aldo.
The final WEC featherweight champion and two-time UFC champion has racked up a whopping nine title defenses throughout his career and that looks to be the number he’ll end it with.
Following a rough patch that saw Aldo go 1-3, he’s since rebounded with two consecutive phenomenal TKO victories over the rising contenders in Jeremy Stephens and Renato “Moicano” Carneiro.
However, prior to his victory over Moicano, Aldo revealed that his contract had three fights remaining on it and that he would like to have them all take place in Brazil and then ride off into the sunset.
With the Moicano fight that took place in Fortaleza, Brazil now out of the way, that leaves Aldo with two. And it seems that he’ll get his wish of facing top contender Alex Volkanovski next in yet another home game.
Farah Hannoun has reported that a meeting between the pair of 145ers is in the works for UFC 237 on May 11 live from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
For Australia’s Volkanovski, he boasts one of the most impressive records in MMA today with his 19 victories and one defeat. The lone loss came in just his fourth professional bout.
Volkanoski is currently 6-0 inside the Octagon and his last win was the biggest of his career as he stopped three-time title challenger Chad Mendes in the second-round via strikes.
If the fight ends up coming to fruition, will Jose Aldo halt yet another rising contender’s momentum?
