Stipe Miocic sends reminder to Daniel Cormier after Jon Jones news

By Tom Taylor - December 24, 2018

Last night, we learned that trace amounts of turinabol had been detected in Jon Jones’ body, and that the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to license him for his UFC 232 fight with Alexander Gustafsson as a result. The UFC then moved the entire UFC 232 card to LA, as the California State Athletic Commission agreed to license Jones on the basis that he didn’t actually fail a drug test and his other recent tests have come back negative.

One of the first fighters to react to this wild turn of events, unsurprisingly, was Jon Jones’ arch rival Daniel Cormier.

“He tested positive again!” Cormier said on Twitter.

This comment from Daniel Cormier garnered a response from Stipe Miocic, the man he defeated to capture the heavyweight title in July. Miocic, who’s been angling for a rematch with Cormier ever since, had a reminder for the champ.

“I’m always clean,” he said. “I train and drink Modelo.”

Interestingly, Daniel Cormier seemed to appreciate this message.

“I know you are and that’s why It was a pleasure in the lead up to the fight with you, and if we do it again it will be the same,” Cormier said in reply to Miocic.

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones have fought twice previously. In their first fight, Jones defeated Cormier by unanimous decision. In their second encounter, Jones won by knockout, though this result was promptly overturned when it was learned that he’d failed a pre-fight drug test. Cormier then went on to capture the heavyweight title from Stipe Miocic with a first-round knockout.

Cormier has repeatedly stated that he plans to retire in March, but has acknowledged that rematches with Jones and Miocic are both possibilities between now and then.
