T.J. Dillashaw says Urijah Faber “probably should’ve stayed retired”

Former UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw is currently serving a two-year suspension from USADA for his use of EPO, and recently spoke on his decision to take the banned-substance, but he also discussed more than that in his interview with Chael Sonnen.

During his interview on the “You’re Welcome” podcast hosted by Chael Sonnen, Dillashaw discussed the return of his former coach and teammate Urijah Faber who is ending his retirement to take on Ricky Simon at UFC Sacramento on July 13, and didn’t hold back in his thoughts on Faber’s return. Faber recently spoke on the possibility of fighting Dillashaw, and it’s a fight that interests him when his former teammate returns from suspension.

While the former champion Dillashaw is on the sidelines and Urijah Faber is preparing for a return, T.J. Dillashaw says he believes Faber should’ve stayed retired.

“I could always tell you when he retired that it was going to be his last fight. To be honest, on a technical level he probably maybe should’ve stayed retired, especially with young and hungry guys coming up. But, I’m hoping he’s not hurting for money, even though we’ve had our beefs and whatever, you never want to wish that kind of bad on someone. Personally I think he should’ve stayed retired but we’ll see, we’ll see how it comes out.”

Faber and Dillashaw were teammates at Team Alpha Male based out of Sacramento, California until both sides parted ways in a fashion that is different from both sides. Faber has said that Dillashaw and followed his now head coach Duane Ludwig who also used to coach at Alpha Male, while T.J. Dillashaw contests he was kicked off the team. The split between both sides got big attention when former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor addressed it on Season 22 of The Ultimate Fighter, referring to Dillashaw as a “snake in the grass.”

When asked by Sonnen if he would be willing to fight Faber if he’s still around when he returns from suspension, T.J. Dillashaw says he would absolutely fight Faber.

“Oh yeah, absolutely. It [the bad blood] is real. He’s the one who created the whole beef by forcing me out of the gym. He gave me the ultimatum, but when I left, I was the bad guy.”
