Tyson Fury weighs in on Conor McGregor’s recent troubles
One fighting star has taken notice of another, although they compete in two different sports. During an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN, boxing superstar Tyson Fury was asked about his thoughts on former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor and the “Gypsy King” had plenty of praise for “The Notorious”.
Helwani asked Fury what his thoughts were on McGregor and included some of the recent trouble McGregor has found himself in, and Fury not only called McGregor a game-changer, but said it’s more about what lessons Conor McGregor learns from his mistakes.
“I think Conor has transcended the game of MMA,” he said. “He’s set precedent. He set the game on fire. He’s definitely a game-changer in MMA. He crossed over, fought [Floyd] Mayweather, he’s become a massive superstar. He’s done very very well, he should be very proud of himself.
“Everybody has troubles in life and it’s not what troubles we have, but it’s how we overcome these troubles and how we learn from them.”
As McGregor is currently working through some legal issues and working his way back to the Octagon, fans await the announcement of a return fight. Recently, UFC President Dana White had said that he planned to meet with McGregor soon and that he expected a summer return for the former champion, but no news or announcements have come from that scheduled meeting. TMZ Sports also recently released a report citing sources that McGregor was training hard and ready to fight now, but still, no news on a possible opponent.
Despite his time away from competition Conor McGregor is still receiving plenty of praise for what he’s done in MMA — and having that praise come from one of the biggest names in boxing certainly doesn’t hurt.
Tyson Fury will return to the boxing ring on Saturday, June 15 as he makes his debut for Top Rank Promotions and will face undefeated Tom Schwarz on ESPN+ in Las Vegas, Nevada.
