UFC President Dana White updates on Daniel Cormier vs. Brock Lesnar fight
During a recent interview with Megan Olivi, UFC President Dana White updated on the fighting future of Daniel Cormier, who initially planned to retire this month.
White feels that Daniel Cormier didn’t want to retire nearly as much as the people around him wanted him to.
“I think it was more the people around Daniel Cormier that wanted him to retire than Daniel Cormier himself,” he said (transcript via MMA Mania). I always say this, if you even think about retirement you probably should. But the reality is, Cormier is on top of his game, he’s the man, never been beaten at heavyweight, only beat by Jon Jones at Light Heavyweight.
“I think the people around him are looking at how much money he’s making outside of the Octagon and saying, ‘You don’t need to do this anymore.’ He’s done very well for himself and his family,” he added.
If Daniel Cormier does indeed delay his retirement, he’s got plenty of options for his next fight. One of those options is a heavyweight title blockbuster with former champion Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar, of course, is currently tied up with WWE, but White feels that we could be hearing from him very soon.
“Brock Lesnar is doing his thing with WWE. One of the things about Brock Lesnar is, when that guy is ready to fight, he is not shy. He will call me and let me know,” White said. “And to be honest with you, I am hoping to hear from that guy this summer.
“I think both guys really want it, Cormier wants it bad,” White added. “I know Cormier wants it bad, and Brock wants it bad. So when two fighters want to fight each other as bad as these two do, I think it’s going to happen.”
Do you think we’ll ever see Brock Lesnar and Daniel Cormier fight?
