UPDATE | Henry Cejudo to defend flyweight title vs TJ Dillashaw at UFC 233

By Cole Shelton - November 8, 2018

The first pay-per-view of the year may have its headliner.

TJ Dillashaw Henry Cejudo

According to MMAFighting, Henry Cejudo vs. TJ Dillashaw is targeted for the card in Anaheim, California on January 26. What weight class that the bout will be at is unknown right now. However, it seems to make the most sense to have the fight at bantamweight given the fact it is reported that the UFC is closing the flyweight division.

The fight would be the main event to an already stacked card. Fights that have been reported are Ben Askren vs. Robbie Lawler and Dominick Cruz vs John Lineker, while Paul Felder will fight James Vick which has been confirmed by the UFC.

*UPDATE: Cejudo vs Dillashaw is now set for the UFC 233 main event and will be at flyweight as Dillashaw looks to become a two-division champion.

Breaking: TJ Dillashaw will move DOWN in weight to challenge Henry Cejudo for the flyweight title at UFC 233 on Jan. 26 in Anaheim, per multiple sources.

Dillashaw will try to become UFC’s sixth male two-weight champ. Full story coming to @ESPN.

Having Dillashaw and Cejudo headline the card makes sense for the UFC. They can sell the card as a super fight between two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. While it would be another champion vs. champion fight as well, ticket sales should benefit from this main event as both fighters were born in California and had their last fights take place in California. On top of that, Dillashaw trains out in Los Angeles not too far from the Honda Center.

Dillashaw hasn’t fought since UFC 227 when he knocked Cody Garbrandt out in the first round to defend his bantamweight title. Dillashaw only fought once in 2018 so by fighting in early January it should set him up to be more active in 2019.

Cejudo, meanwhile, won the flyweight title on that very same card where the Olympic gold medalist shocked the world by defeating Demetrious Johnson via split decision.
