Yoel Romero responds to Luke Rockhold’s call for light heavyweight rematch
Over the weekend, former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold announced that he’d like to fight long-time middleweight contender Yoel Romero again in the future — at light heavyweight.
To remind, Rockhold and Romero fought earlier this year. In this first meeting, Romero won by knockout. Unfortunately, Romero missed weight for this bout, which made it a tough defeat for Rockhold to swallow.
“Yoel’s a piece that can’t make weight,” Luke Rockhold said in a recent interview with TMZ. “I don’t even know how he exists in the rankings. He missed weight for 2 back-to-back title fights. The guy’s a cheap f*ck and I’ll find him at light heavyweight if he wants to do it again.”
It did not take long for Yoel Romero to respond to this callout from Luke Rockhold. While the Cuban knockout artist did not specify whether he’s interested in rematching Rockhold or not, he did remind his former opponent what happened the first time they fought.

“Somebody remind [Luke Rockhold] the last time he look for me what happened,” Yoel Romero said in an Instagram post that also included a video of him knocking Rockhold out.
Luke Rockhold is currently scheduled for a rematch with a fellow former champion in Chris Weidman, who he’ll meet on the main card of UFC 230 on November 3 in New York City. Yoel Romero was also briefly expected to fight on this card, against the undefeated Paulo Costa, but unfortunately could not accept this fight due to injury.
While both fighters currently seem to be sticking to the middleweight division, both have also repeatedly flirted with the idea of moving north to the 205-pound light heavyweight division, where their weight cut would be less taxing.
