Yoel Romero to Israel Adesanya: ‘See you soon’

By Tom Taylor - April 16, 2019

Over the weekend, in the co-main event of UFC 236, undefeated UFC middleweight contender Israel Adesanya became the interim champion with a dazzling decision defeat of the dangerous Kelvin Gastelum.

Adesanya’s thrilling victory over Gastelum caught the attention of pretty much every member of the MMA community. That includes former middleweight title challenger Yoel Romero, who sent the new interim champion a quick message post fight.

“What level boss am I?” Yoel Romero write to Israel Adesanya on Twitter, before concluding with a pair of his patented hashtags. “seeyousoonboi #iluhju.”

With his victory over Kelvin Gastelum, Israel Adesanya is now 6-0 in the UFC, having bested Rob Wilkinson, Marvin Vettori, Brad Tavares, Derek Brunson, Anderson Silva and now Gastelum in a little over a year’s time. He can now look forward to a title-unifying battle with undisputed middleweight champion Robert Whittaker.

The former Olympic wrestler Yoel Romero, on the other hand, has been out of action since he battled Whittaker for a second time, in June of 2018. He’s since been linked to a middleweight showdowns with undefeated contender Paulo Costa and former Strikeforce champ Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, but unfortunately these bouts have not yet come to fruition.

Do you think we’ll see Romero and Adesanya fight in the future? If they do, who do you think will come out on top? Join the conversation in the comments section below.
