Urijah Faber updates on fighting future after loss to Petr Yan

Urijah Faber began his 2019 comeback with a dominant, first-round victory over Ricky Simon. Unfortunately for the Team Alpha Male head, however, his comeback plans then hit a snag at the hands of Petr Yan. Faber and Yan collided on the main card of UFC 245 in December, and the fight ended up being a lopsided third-round TKO victory for the Russian.

Petr Yan has been running through the UFC’s bantamweight division and at UFC 245, he was opened the pay-per-view card against Urijah Faber. It was the biggest fight of his career, and the perfect opportunity to make a statement. Ultimately, that is what Yan did. He looked impressive throughout the fight, dropping Faber numerous times with vicious elbows, knees, and punches.

Urijah Faber came up short against Petr Yan last weekend but he enjoyed every second of the fight. To open the UFC 245 pay-per-view main card, Faber was looking to be the first person to hand the Russian a loss inside the Octagon. Yet, that did not happen as Yan knocked Faber out with a head kick in the third round. The UFC Hall of Famer was also dropped numerous times in the fight.

UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber has released a statement following his brutal third-round KO loss to Petr Yan in the opening main card fight at UFC 245. Faber was beaten to the punch by his much-younger opponent for the first two round before Yan was able to connect on a massive head kick and knock Faber out in the third round. It was a devastating setback for Faber, who came out of retirement over the summer and beat Ricky Simon in an upset win at UFC Sacramento back in July to surprisingly jump back into title contention at 135lbs.

Likewise, Covington has been riding high on an impressive streak victories. Then, at UFC Sacramento, “The California Kid” knocked out Ricky Simon in 46 seconds and returned the favor by calling out Cejudo. Since the callouts, many are interested in seeing that fight and even the UFC Hall of Famer said the chances of the fight happening next are very good. According to Cejudo’s manager in Ali Abdelaziz, however, he doesn’t believe Urijah Faber deserves it and instead should fight Marlon Moraes for the chance to fight the champ-champ.

Michael Bisping wouldn’t be opposed to seeing Urijah Faber jump the line in the UFC bantamweight division. Back in Dec. 2016, Faber ended his professional mixed martial arts career. He walked off on his terms, defeating Brad Pickett via unanimous decision in Sacramento. Faber was later inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. For Faber, however, the itch to compete didn’t go away.
