Jennifer Maia is hoping to “surprise the world” when she fights UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 255. Maia was granted the title shot against Shevchenko after pulling off an incredible submission victory over former top contender Joanne Calderwood over the summer. The UFC matched Maia up against the champ Shevchenko, and they will fight in the co-headliner of UFC 255 on November 21 in Las Vegas. The oddsmakers aren’t giving Maia much of a chance in this fight, as the Brazilian is listed as a massive betting underdog.

The flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko showcased her washboard abs and well-deserved UFC belt on a beach in a picture she posted to social media this week. “Bullet” Shevchenko revealed her incredible physique as she smiled while holding her UFC belt in the summer sun. She opted for a plain black Reebok bikini that showcased her tattoos and defined abs. She also chose a high ponytail that made the most of her blonde tresses. The flyweight champion looked incredibly poised as she looked into the distance and posed for the camera.

Chael Sonnen doesn’t believe Valentina Shevchenko vs. Weili Zhang is a true superfight, at least not yet. Zhang has talked about wanting to fight Shevchenko down the line, but the flyweight champion doesn’t seem so interested. The opening betting odds have been released for the upcoming UFC women’s flyweight title fight at UFC 251 between champion Valentina Shevchenko and challenger Joanne Calderwood. ESPN broke the news this week that Shevchenko vs. Calderwood will take place on June 6 at a location and venue that is do-be-determined. Typically the UFC visits Chicago in June so there’s a chance the card could be placed there yet again, though that’s not confirmed yet. Regardless, it seems like Shevchenko vs. Calderwood will wind up as the co-main event on the card.

UFC 247 was an entertaining card with plenty of finishes and some exciting, back-and-forth wars. Unfortunately, as is so often the case with entertaining cards of this kind, the result is quite a few lengthy medical suspensions. This time around, that includes a potential six-month sit for UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, who decimated Katlyn Chookagian in the UFC 247 co-main event. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversaw the UFC 247 card in Houston, does not disclose the details of their medical suspensions the way other state commissions do, so we don’t know what injuries and health concerns have caused the suspensions each fighter received. We also don’t know if the fighters listed below can compete earlier if they’re cleared by a doctor, but that is usually the case.
