The Canadian superstar. “GSP“, discussed his desire to fight the promotions undefeated lightweight champion during a recent interview with Global News.

“So the fighting part, it’s been a few months that my agents are in communications with the UFC. They tried to make a fight happen. It was against Khabib Nurmagomedov. I know Khabib wanted to fight me, and I wanted to fight him.” Georges St-Pierre stated. “It’s not about feeling, it is just about respect. For me, as an athlete, what drives me the most is… What is most exciting for an athlete in combat sports is to be able to beat someone that seems invincible. At the same time, that is the scariest thing to do, but it is the most exciting thing to do. And at the point that I am in my career, to keep my motivation high that is what I am targeting. Khabib for me, right now he is the best fighter in the world. He is undefeated. And he wins, when you see him fight he is incredible. He wins every round. Nobody has ever even found a weakness in him. So he is a really good problem to solve. And for more as a fighter, that is the most exciting thing. You know, but the UFC is a business. And at the other end, they know I am 37-years-old and that I am at the end of my career. Khabib is younger. He has plenty of fights in front of him. He (Khabib Nurmagomedov) provides a great future for the UFC from a business standpoint. They want to keep him there, and I understand… Instead of taking a risk and putting him in there against a guy like me you know. I do what is best for my interest and they do what is best for their interests. So that is where it is right now.”

Georges St-Pierre was last seen in action at UFC 217 in November of 2017, where he submitted Michael Bisping to become the promotions middleweight champion of the world.

“Rush” would later vacate that title after suffering from ulcerative colitis.

Now healthy, it appears that Georges St-Pierre is set on scoring a bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
