VIDEO | Ahead of Cormier vs. Oezdemir, Chael Sonnen wonders about "the elephant in the room"
Tom Taylor - January 9, 2018
On January 20, in the co-main event of UFC 220, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will put his strap on the line opposite surging Swiss knockout artist Volkan Oezdemir. Ahead of this fight, pretty much everyone has an opinion on it. One of the more interesting opinions on the fight comes from Chael Sonnen, who is wondering just how much of a role Cormier’s longtime training partner Luke Rockhold is playing Volkan Oezdemir’s training camp. Rockhold and Oezdemir, of course, both train at Combat Club in Lantana, Florida, and have even apparently done a few rounds of sparring together. “Why is nobody talking about the elephant in the room on this one?” Sonnen queried in a recent episode of Beyond the Fight. “There is some insider baseball here. Luke Rockhold, Daniel Cormier’s longest standing teammate, is now a new teammate of Volkan. They’re training together, every day. I saw a sparring video myself on the internet. What’s Rockhold saying? He’s not just saying ‘oh I’ll stay out of this one.’ You can’t just stay out of this one. Your buddy calls you and says ‘what are you going to do? Are you this guy’s teammate, or aren’t you? Do you belong to this gym or do you belong to that one?’ So what’s the insider baseball there. What’s the insider guy saying. What’s the guy that’s done a hundred rounds with DC saying to the guy he’s done thirty rounds with in Volkan. I find that interesting. I find both of these guys to be very confident, and makes me wonder who’s giving them that confidence?”
VIDEO | This clip shows the crazy changes the UFC welterweight top-10 has experienced in 2017
Tom Taylor - January 9, 2018
2017 was a crazy year for MMA. We witnessed perhaps the greatest submission ever, courtesy of flyweight champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. We were dazzled by some truly ridiculous knockouts, many of which happened to be dealt with knees. We enjoyed some thrilling, back-and-forth fights. We watched the meteoric rises of fighters like Max Holloway, Francis Ngannou and Volkan Oezdemir. No matter how you swing it, 2017 was a wild one for our sport. The crazy nature of the year 2017 is perfectly exemplified in the video at the top of this post (via Reddit user mikehutch) which shows the procession of insane shakeups and adjustments the UFC welterweight division experienced over the course of the year. Contenders rose and fell. Long-time staples of the top-10 like Carlos Condit and Dong Hyun Kim made their inevitable exits from the rankings, while a handful of talented young fighters like Colby Covington, Darren Till and Kamaru Usman shoehorned themselves into the division’s uppermost echelon… Relive it all by watching the video above.

VIDEO | Urijah Faber opens up about Jean-Claude Van Damme kicking Cody Garbrandt's face
Russell Sai - January 5, 2018
Jean-Claude Van Damme was recently at Team Alpha Male to show the fighters there some of his techniques. However, things got a bit more physical than anyone expected. During a technique exchange where Garbrandt wasn’t expecting any contact sparring, Van-Damme caught the former UFC champ with a kick to the face. Team Alpha Male’s Urijah Faber was right there when it all happened and explained to TMZ what he saw go down between the two.
VIDEO | Rory MacDonald Waiting to Joyfully Unleash Violence at Bellator 192
Justin Golightly - January 5, 2018
There’s an unofficial ‘Most Violent’ title going around the UFC, but it feels wrong to have that in contention when Rory MacDonald is in Bellator. One of the top welterweights in the world enjoys fighting so much, he even welcomes a defeat, as long as it is bloody and brutal. You have to have a very special brain to call what happened in the fight with Robbie Lawler one of the best moments of your life. That’s just how MacDonald is, he is a killer. It’s that type of mindset that the cerebral assassin is looking to release once again in the Bellator cage. This time though, it’s for a title. “Getting to beat someone up and to unleash what’s inside of me, that’s what I like. That’s what gets me up and excited. Look at what I did to Paul [Daley] and look at the fight [Douglas Lima] had with Paul. I do feel that Douglas is better on the ground, so when we get there I feel like I’m going to be able to showcase my found and pound more and my jiu-jitsu a lot more than I did against Paul. Where it was me just schooling Paul, I think it’s going to be more of a battle.”
VIDEO | Watch Khabib Nurmagomedov Yell at Dana White at UFC 219
Justin Golightly - January 5, 2018
It seems like Khabib Nurmagomedov is making up for lost time. His dominant performance over Michael Johnson at UFC 205 was November of 2016. He didn’t fight until he met Edson Barboza in the Octagon at UFC 219. He not only made weight, put on a ‘Performance of the Night’ against a top five lightweight, but he hasn’t stopped talking since. In the new preview for UFC’s ‘The Thrill and the Agony’ episode, it reveals what Nurmagomedov said to White directly after his UFC 219 victory. “I’m here for three months without my family. My wife is pregnant. I didn’t cry one and a half years, ‘Oh, my wife is pregnant,’ but I came here like a man because I try to stay busy. Without an injury, I can smash all lightweights.” —Khabib Nurmagomedov right after beating Edson Barboza at UFC 219.

Russell Sai - January 3, 2018
Khabib Nurmagomedov dazzled a lot of people with his performance over Edson Barboza at UFC 219. Although a few people including Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson were not so impressed by Nurmagomedov’s performance, UFC commentator Joe Rogan was blown away and has talked about a matchup between McGregor and Nurmagomedov as that is undeniably a very intriguing matchup in the UFC lightweight division. Ferguson tweeted after UFC 219, “Yo @joerogan Last Time I Checked I Was The Fuckin Champ… U Trading The 10P Gear For A Hat?”
VIDEO | Cody Garbrandt gets super pissed off after Jean-Claude Van Damme kicks him in the face
Russell Sai - January 2, 2018
You may have heard former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt talk about the incident, but the video of what went down with movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme has just recently surfaced. Van Damme was over at Team Alpha Male not long ago showing the guys in the gym some technique. Garbrandt explained on the Real Quick with Mike Swick podcast that he and Van Damme were going through some kicking techniques where the martial arts movie star turned things up a bit too much and hit Garbrandt with a kick “right in the teeth.”
VIDEO | Watch an Orc Make His UFC Debut Against Travis Browne
Justin Golightly - December 30, 2017
When the UFC released a video about Max ‘Blue Carnage’ Carlyle, needless to say that a lot of people were confused. We learned about Carlyle’s struggles and his journey to achieve his dream of becoming the first Orc to ever fight in the Octagon. Dana White dismissed the idea that his kind would ever step foot into the UFC, much like he did when asked if women would ever fight for the organization. Of course, all of this ended up being an elaborate tie-in to Will Smith’s new film Bright which debuted on Netflix. The teaser promised we’d see the rest of the story and today the conclusion dropped. Watch me face off with @travisbrowneMMA 12/30. Only on @UFC. pic.twitter.com/RyERr65R1g

BREAKING VIDEO | Chael Sonnen Claims Rafael dos Anjos Won't Get the Shot at Tyron Woodley
Justin Golightly - December 26, 2017
Welterweight is absolutely insane right now, with Tyron Woodley as the undisputed king and Colby Covington causing chaos at every turn. Former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos upset former welterweight belt holder Robbie Lawler, supposedly earning a title shot. However, that’s not the direction the UFC is going in according to Chael Sonnen. It looks like the report of Woodley possibly coaching the newest season of The Ultimate Fighter along with Covington is still going around, giving Covington the shot he’s rallied for relentlessly.
VIDEO | Carlos Condit May Retire From MMA for the Love of Coffee
Justin Golightly - December 26, 2017
When Carlos Condit lost to Demian Maia back at UFC Vancouver last August, the ‘Natural Born Killer’ contemplated walking away from the sport. After a sabbatical and starting a new coffee business along with partners Ryan and Kaitlin Hoskinson, he’s ready to get back and brew up more violence. Although we may not see Condit in the UFC much longer, according to this conversation over breakfast with MMA Fighting’s photographer Esther Lin. Admitting he never had an exit strategy when he made the decision to be a professional fighter, one of the top welterweights in the world may have finally found one with Hundred Hands coffee. “I don’t know. This [fight at UFC 219] might be a one-off deal. We’ll see. If I can get in there, get a big win, get a bonus, get some money to freakin’ get the coffee thing rolling and be a more substantial thing and like a source of income, this might be it. But maybe not, I don’t know. It’s a hard thing. Once you get a taste of all of it, the adrenaline, all of it, including the money, the pay days. [Fighting is] not an easy way to make money, but it’s the best way that I know to make money. So there’s that. It pays the bills.”

VIDEO | Tito Ortiz Was in Awe of the Sky Last Night
Justin Golightly - December 23, 2017
Can you imagine that you are diving in your car, admiring the dark blue expanse of the heavens, when suddenly all these humongous, streaking blobs spread across the sky? You pull off the road along with other drives and look up, trying to take pictures or record some video for social media or to preserve this moment in case it’s the night that aliens visit Earth. In that crazy moment, you turn to your left and there is Tito Ortiz doing the same thing. That may have happened to someone last night as the former UFC light heavyweight champion tried to figure out if this was real life. “SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 5:27 p.m., was carrying 10 satellites to low-Earth orbit. The satellites will be part of a constellation operated by Iridium Communications. All 10 satellites successfully deployed, with the last one deploying about 1 hour and 12 minutes after liftoff.”
VIDEO | Joe Rogan confirmed with Dana White that Floyd Mayweather is serious about fighting in the UFC
Russell Ess - December 19, 2017
For those that believed that undefeated and retired boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather was just running his mouth about fighting in the UFC, it seems to be a bit more serious than many might have believed. UFC commentator Joe Rogan was speaking with Eddie Bravo recently on his podcast and revealed that he asked Dana White about the rumors of Mayweather talking about a multi-fight billion dollar deal with the UFC. Interestingly, the UFC President told Rogan that they have been talking and Mayweather does have interest in fighting in the Octagon.
