There has been some buzz recently about UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor being in talks with the WWE for a big money offer, perhaps for a match at WrestleMania 34 in April of next year. While the UFC, WWE, and McGregor did not make any official statement on if that was the case, UFC President Dana White shut down those rumors during a recent interview with FOX 5 News. The news anchors brought up to White that there was talk of McGregor going to the WWE to wrestle next year.

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping and former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre are set to meet in the Octagon at UFC 217, which takes place at the Madison Square Garden in New York on November 4. St-Pierre’s November 4th return to the Octagon will be just shy of four years since he last fought. St-Pierre last competed in mixed martial arts on November 16, 2013, where he defeated Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in a close welterweight title fight that ended with a judge’s split decision going in favor of St-Pierre who was champion at the time. For the return of “Rush,” the former welterweight kingpin will be stepping up a weight class to challenge Bisping for his 185-pound title, which the Englishman won by knocking out Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 in June of last year.

There was a lot of back and forth talk with the Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi sparring sessions, especially with their eventual fallout. After their first sparring session, Malignaggi said that McGregor’s punching power was good, but it wasn’t “Oh my god” power that he never felt before. Malignaggi stated that there were only a select few opponents and sparring partners that he felt had that sort of power and that seems to be the case with UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier as well.

Saturday’s UFC 216 card turned out to be an embarrassment of riches. Lando Vannata and Bobby Green had a crazy, bloody Fight of the Night. Tony Ferguson became the number one lightweight in the world not named Conor McGregor, in an exciting title fight with Kevin Lee. Who can forget Demetrious Johnson inventing new and amazing ways to tap opponents out by blending a suplex and an armbar? However, the best fight on the card may have gone unnoticed. There are coaches for all aspects of mixed tiatial arts. You have head coaches that bring everything together and others that help on a specific discipline such as wrestling, striking, or jiu-jitsu. Then, for some athletes, they also hire a mental coach to help them through their mental blocks or issues that can hold back an athlete from their full potential. Georges St-Pierre and Vitor Belfort are examples of some of the biggest stars in mixed martial arts that have worked with a mental coach during their careers. Now, with the sport being highlighted by promotional beasts such as Conor McGregor, could fighters use a promotional coach to hype themselves up and build more fan interest?

When the first UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver left the organization, the UFC put on a lightweight tournament to crown a new king of the world at 155-pounds. But after BJ Penn and Caol Uno fought to a draw in the finals, the UFC dissolved the entire division. This is what prompted Penn to search out new challenges, resulting in fighting future PRIDE lightweight champion Takanori Gomi in K-1 back in 2003. Oct10.2003

A video has surfaced on the Internet that has a cause for concern which allegedly involves a UFC veteran. Bloody Elbow reported that Rony Jason was caught on video assaulting a woman at a party in Brazil. As you can see in the video posted on the YouTube channel Tudo Sobre MMA, it is hard to see from the angle the clip was recorded but it appears that the man in the video hits the woman as she is down on the ground as a group of people pull him off and hold him back. It is unclear what provoked the situation.

The octagon will return to Madison Square Garden in New York next month for UFC 217. The pay-per-view fight card, which takes place November 4, will be headlined by a middleweight title fight featuring current champion Michael Bisping taking on former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre.

The arena for UFC 216 tonight is still empty, while yesterday a press conference kicked off the hype for UFC 217. It’s a New York card much like the blockbuster last year at Madison Sqaure Garden. Former boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi has been doing his best to lure Conor McGregor into a boxing match with him ever since their fallout from McGregor’s training camp for Floyd Mayweather. Malignaggi is retired from the sport but would be more than happy to get his chance to show the world what he can do against the current UFC lightweight champion in the boxing ring. We’ve seen a few short clips of what McGregor did to Malignaggi during their sparring sessions in the training camp, but haven’t seen Malignaggi’s side to how things went in sparring.

Back during the build-up for UFC 209, Tony Ferguson called himself the new John Wick. Well, we’re starting to believe him. First of all, he’s been secluded at a camp he built himself in California’s Big Bear. It’s secret, there is no huge team surrounding him and glossy posters of his face. What we get from his camp are personal Instagram videos of him doing ridiculous things: Elbowing speed bags, yoga, integrating Capoeira striking, you name it, he’s done it. You’re talking about a guy that looks at a laser maze as a active rest training device. So, it should be no surprise when it came to his UFC 216 open workout yesterday. UFC Hall of Fame legend Matt Hughes is well on his way to recovering from his horrifying accident. In June, Hughes was involved in a crash when his pickup truck that he was driving was struck by a train while crossing the train tracks. Hughes was airlifted to the HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois near his hometown and was cared for by the medical staff.

Former boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi is still not letting his beef with UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor go. The two had a couple of sparring sessions together after McGregor’s team asked Malignaggi to help “The Notorious” prepare for his professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather. Their training relationship came to an end after Malignaggi felt he was “exploited” with photos that made him look bad by Conor and his team.
