VIDEO | Amir Khan offers fascinating analysis of Conor McGregor boxing footage
In addition to the eyes of the MMA community being fixed on a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather showdown, the boxing community is equally focused on the potential showdown.
During a recent interview with FightHype.com, former WBC, Ring, and Lineal middleweight champion Amir Khan spoke about not only a fight between the pair, but also sparring footage of McGregor, offering an absolutely fascinating analysis of McGregor’s recently released sparring footage.
“I’m excited to see it for a boxer vs. an MMA guy. Curiosity. I just think it’s Mayweather all day long, that he’s going to beat him quite easily.”
In regards to boxing sparring footage of McGregor, Khan stated that he feels McGregor is purposely putting out footage of himself boxing that doesn’t truly showcase his abilities in order to bait Mayweather into a fight:
“I’ve seen one , and it was…it didn’t look that hot. But maybe he did that, put it out there, to show that. You might want to show it so Mayweather says ‘You know what, this is going to be easy.’ It’s funny that, since Mayweather probably saw that sparring video he goes ‘I’ll fight that guy,’ so it probably worked!”
“Why would he put a video out there if it’s shit? There must be something that he’s hiding, something that he’s not telling us…”
“With the sparring videos I’ve seen, I don’t think he gave us the full video of that…it wasn’t a real video.”
Khan is likely referring to the footage of McGregor sparring with South African boxing champion Chris Van Heerden from nearly a year ago. While Khan wasn’t exactly impressed with McGregor, Van Heerden had quite a bit of praise for the Irish superstar, stating on Twitter that “I’ve sparred with top fighters & Conor McGregor’s boxing game is right up there.” In addition, Former olympic boxer Tony Jeffires stated “Never thought Conor McGregor had a chance against Floyd Mayweather until I seen him spar…AMAZING.”
