Earlier this month, a fired up Conor McGregor told members of the boxing media that he was poised to “shock the world” and knock out Floyd Mayweather – should their much discussed boxing match ever actually occur.

In a recent interview with FightHype, Mayweather responded to this fiery outburst from McGregor, and also addressed Dana White’s recent claim that this headline dominating boxing match could actually occur.

“I feel like [McGregor is] entitled to feel the way he wants to feel,” Mayweather said (via MMAFighting.com). “Only thing you can do is respect that.”

“I just want to say, Dana White, I was overseas when they told me what you said,” he continued, addressing White’s change of heart. “I wanna say, good work Dana White. Conor McGregor, they said you finally opened your mouth and you’re back to talking sh*t and I say that’s cool too.”

Mayweather then explained that he’s hesitant to respond with too much heat, as he likes to comport himself like a gentleman outside the ring. His words:

“With me, it is what it is. If I can’t do nothing, everybody knows I can fight, if i can’t do nothing else. But when I’m not in the ring, I’m a gentleman. Outside the ring, I’m a gentleman.”

Finally, the boxing great gave his take on whether or not this fight can actually be made.

“It’s about what I say,” he said confidently. “It’s whatever I say. Like I’ve said before, it is what it is. If it happens, it happens. We’ll just see.”

Mayweather recently ended his retirement with the singular purpose of making this showdown with McGregor happen. McGregor, meanwhile, has stated repeatedly that a boxing match with Mayweather is currently the only thing that interests him.
