On this day in MMA history, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones became the youngest UFC champion in the history of the sport as he fought Shogun Rua for the UFC light heavyweight championship on short notice.
Jones went out and dominated Rua, securing multiple takedowns, and utilizing his speed and range to pick apart the MMA legend. Ultimately, Jones picked up a 3rd round TKO win to become the youngest champion in UFC history.
Jones went on to defend his light heavyweight championship 8 times before being stripped of his title. However, Jones will have the opportunity to reclaim the championship he never lost in the Octagon as he faces Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 197 on April 23rd.
