VIDEO | Oscar De La Hoya: Canelo Alvarez would beat Conor McGregor’s ass
With the news of Conor McGregor recently getting a boxing license, many are speculating on what it all means.
With the UFC’s recent announcement that the UFC superstar “relinquished” the featherweight title, McGregor’s verbal silence has led many to believe he was stripped of the 145-pound belt rather than agreeing to give it up on his own decision.
UFC President Dana White has stated since the announcement of McGregor “relinquishing” the featherweight belt that it was, in fact, McGregor’s decision.
As news of “The Notorious” obtaining a boxing license comes just days after “relinquishing” the title, many are left wondering if it is a stab at the UFC.
Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya has also heard the news of McGregor’s boxing license and says that he knows one boxer that would surely beat the UFC star.
“I will tell you who will beat Conor McGregor’s ass. They call him Canelo Alvarez,” De La Hoya told TMZ of his own Golden Boy Promotions boxer. “And, he looks Irish just like Conor.
“So think about it. If they step in the ring, people will think there is two Irish going up in the ring. But guess what? Canelo is Mexican and Conor is Irish.”
De La Hoya then went off on a different road to offer an invitation to “The Notorious” to see a boxing legend fight in the ring in December.
“I’m extending an invitation to Conor on December 17. Bernard Hopkins is fighting on HBO at The Forum, live on HBO. I’m extending an invitation to Conor to witness a real legend in the ring. If he wants to witness a live, real, legend, then go see Bernard Hopkins on December 17 at The Forum.”
Not a bad way for De La Hoya to plug his own event coming up.
