MMA legend Tito Ortiz couldn’t have asked for a better outcome to his retirement fight on Saturday night.
“The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” took on former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen at Bellator 170 at The Forum in California Saturday night and won in the very first round with a rear-naked choke submission.
Following the win, Ortiz opened up about the text message that UFC President Dana White sent to Ortiz’s girlfriend, former Octagon Girl, Amber Nichole Miller. White congratulated the UFC Hall of Fame Legend in the message sent to Miller after submitting Sonnen in the last fight of his career.
“He actually sent my girlfriend a text message, cause she used to work for UFC, and they always talk back and forth,” Ortiz explained. “When I first signed with Bellator, Dana sent me focus mitts with his face on it and said, ‘If this doesn’t motivate you, nothing will.’
“So I guess it’s that love-hate relationship we got toward each other. But, I guess, thank you, Dana, for the text, saying ‘That’s the way you should go out, on top.’ I mean, I love the guy. He was my first manager, you know. I always just fought for what I wanted for my career. That’s what I always fought for. No hard feelings, I’ve grown up a lot over the last four years, and I’ve done a lot of things business-wise that I’m looking for my future. I’ve made mistakes before and I will never make those mistakes again.”
