Why can’t we be friends, why cant we be friends? This is the song that comes to mind after see the display of respect this morning at the early UFC Austin weigh-ins for the fights on Sunday night. We’re so used to months of fighters saying awful things to each other on Twitter and insulting them in primetime interviews, which is fun, but sometimes it’s just refreshing to not have that. Every now and then, two warriors are just like, you know what? We’re going to fight because we’re good at it and it’s just business. Donald Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros epitomized that philosophy and the Hawaiian even presented a cowboy hat to Cerrone today at the weigh-in staredowns.
Not only did we have a great display of respect, but everyone made weight today. The main event is on and compelling between Yancy Medeiros and Cerrone. Medeiros is on a three-fight win streak, fresh off his ‘Fight of the Night’ performance against Alex Oliveira at UFC 218. He threatens to climb the ranks and become a real problem in the division unless Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone can put him away. As far as Cerrone, he’s on the opposite end of the spectrum. He’s on a three-fight losing skid and someone’s streak must go. If he does win, not only will he find redemption, but will tie the record of most wins in UFC history. Below is the full card.
