World Series of Fighting 22 takes place this Saturday in Las Vegas, NV. The prelims will kick things off at 8 PM ET and the main card will air at 11 PM ET. Of course, an obvious observation is that the event lands on the same night as one of the UFC’s biggest PPV events, UFC 190.

WSOF president Ray Sefo isn’t worried though and thinks in the end, it’s the fans that win.

“Sometimes these things are going to happen,” Sefo told BJPENN.COM, “The UFC has has an event either once a week or twice a week, so it’s a situation where you can’t change or try and maneuver around. The fortunate thing is that the fans get to enjoy not only the UFC fights but they get to enjoy our show as well, because I think with the time differences, by the time the UFC’s main event wraps up they can just tune right into World Series of Fighting.”

About that card, Sefo says it’s just a continuation of what they’ve been doing, which is putting together massive fight cards. WSOF 22 will feature two title fights in the main and co-main event.

“We continue to put on big cards. Sometimes we sound like a broken record but it’s the truth. We continue to put all these big cards together. Headlining is Rousimar Palhares, who’s the welterweight champion and Jake Shields, who’s fought the best of the best.”

Leading up to that fight it’s been pretty clear just how exactly Shields feels about Palhares, using the term ‘dirty fighter’ and ‘bad guy’ whenever he gets the chance to describe him. Shields isn’t happy with the way Palhares has been known to hold his go-to leg lock a little too long, even after his opponents have tapped.

“There’s no love lost there for sure. Jake has said that he’s not happy with Rousimar Palhares because he feels he’s a dirty fighter.”

Sefo also commented on the return of Fedor Emelianenko. Right now no one knows where the heavyweight will end up upon his return to MMA, but one things for sure, WSOF wants in on that raffle. Matchmaker and VP Ali Abdelaziz has said that the company could absolutely afford a fighter like Fedor, or even Brock Lesnar if they wanted to. Sefo mirrored those comments and added that the promotion has in fact reached out to Fedor’s camp.

“When big name fighters like Fedor or Brock Lesnar becomes available, yeah we will definitely make an offer and we would welcome them. Of course if it works for the fighter and benefits the company than absolutely.

“Ali’s reached out to their camp and right now nothing official has been done so you know, I can’t really elaborate too much.”
