McGregor: ‘F*** interim, I’m the champion’
Conor McGregor was initially slated to fight UFC featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo at UFC 189 on July 11th, however a rib injury forced Aldo out of the bout just weeks before the event.
2-time title challenger Chad Mendes stepped in on short notice to fight Conor McGregor for the interim UFC featherweight title. We all know how that fight ended.
Now McGregor is slated to fight Aldo at UFC 194 on December 12th, and while he has previously stated that he believes Aldo will withdraw from the bout, he isn’t too happy when people refer to him as the ‘interim champion.’
He spoke to British GQ:
“F— that, what do you mean interim? Aldo and I had a date, he didn’t show, someone else took his place, I beat him, easy. So don’t give me interim.”
