Floyd Mayweather vs Tenshin Nasukawa back on for RIZIN 14, rule set revealed

It’s been a bit of a weird ride in the build-up to RIZIN 14 as it gets its main event sorted out. But that main event will indeed end up being a collision between all-time boxing great, Floyd Mayweather and superstar Japanese kickboxing prodigy, Tenshin Nasukawa. After Mayweather called the fight off due to being ‘completely blindsided‘, RIZIN apologized for the confusion and promised some clarity soon. Well, we now have that clarity.

Earlier this month, BJPENN.COM reported that undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather had signed on for a shocking fight with undefeated kickboxing wunderkind Tenshin Nasukawa under the Rizin banner. The fight was said to be scheduled for December 31 in Tokyo, Japan, and the rules for the bout were apparently being negotiated. Then it all came crashing down.

The out of nowhere announcement of all out of nowhere announcements was announced last night as Floyd Mayweather vs Tenshin Nasukawa will take place at Rizin 14 on New Year’s Eve. Every year since their existence, Rizin Fighting Federation has held their biggest events on New Year’s Eve. And after two already incredible shows with Rizin 11 and Rizin 13, it was going to take something massive to top those for the end of 2018.

The press conference will occur in Tokyo, Japan at 12:00pm Monday local time (10:00pm Sunday ET). This English-friendly press conference will stream live on the promotion’s official YouTube channel, and is sure to include some pretty interesting news. In fact, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Mayweather will fight for the Japanese promotion.

Crossing through the end of July to the beginning of August, the RIZIN Fighting Federation put on two successful shows in two weeks. After a huge and wildly entertaining show with RIZIN 11 on July 29th at the famous Saitama Super Arena, RIZIN 12 followed on August 12th but was in a much smaller venue.

Once again the RIZIN Fighting Federation has delivered another great night of action. We saw a little bit of everything, including comebacks and upsets. As far as spectacles go, it’s hard to beat a RIZIN event. This time though, everything was straight to the point as the show took place in a smaller arena than usual, the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium in Nagoya.

“The Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva is arguably Japan’s biggest star when it comes to fighters who made their name in the country. The legendary Brazilian now is hoping to fight in front of a Japanese crowd once again before everything is all said and done. Silva was present at RIZIN 12 today to corner one half of the main event, Luiz Gustavo. But midway through the card, Silva found some time to head to the ring and address the crowd.
