Brendan Schaub feels fight fans are more inclined to root for Nate Diaz over Conor McGregor these days. Despite being away from the Octagon since Aug. 2016, Diaz’s popularity never waned. The Stockton native finally returned to action at UFC 241 to the roar of those in attendance inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Not only did Diaz defeat Anthony Pettis, but he also proved to be a “needle mover” as UFC 241 set a record for the highest live gate for an MMA event in the state of California with $3,237,032.

UFC 242 promises to be an action-packed event full of anticipated match ups. That includes a rematch between long-time lightweight contenders Paul Felder and Edson Barboza. The lightweight fighters first touched gloves in 2015 at UFC on FOX 16 in Chicago, Illinois. They went three rounds, and Barboza ended up securing victory by unanimous decision. It was the first loss of Felder’s career.

A battle between two of the most skilled grapplers in the UFC welterweight division is set to headline the UFC’s return to Singapore this fall, when Ben Askren takes on Demian Maia. Askren vs. Maia will headline UFC Singapore, which takes place October 26 at Singapore Indoor Arena in Kallang, Singapore. UFC president Dana White confirmed the fight with reporters at a post-fight scrum following the Contender Series.

Henry Cejudo raised eyebrows last week when he challenged women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko to an “inter-gender” bout. UFC welterweight contender Michael Chiesa is stepping it up a notch by calling for a Brock Lesnar vs Gabi Garcia matchup. Valentina Shevchenko successfully defended her flyweight title at UFC Uruguay when she went five rounds against Liz Carmouche. She beat Carmouche to a unanimous decision victory, avenging her loss from their first fight in 2010. After the fight, Cejudo took the limelight back by challenging Shevchenko to the first inter-gender fight.

The man who once ruled the roost at featherweight was planning to retire from MMA competition at the end of 2019. Aldo even considered transitioning to boxing. Those plans changed as Aldo signed a long-term deal with the UFC back in June.
