Miesha Tate says Cris Cyborg was 'humanized' during UFC run

Fernando Quiles - August 12, 2019

Miesha Tate looks back on Cris Cyborg’s UFC run as the time the unstoppable force met her match. Cyborg had long been regarded as the most dominant female in mixed martial arts history. She pummeled Gina Carano back in Aug. 2009 to leave no doubt as to who the Strikeforce queen was. While she never got a chance to face Ronda Rousey, Cyborg’s dominance lasted longer than Rousey’s. This of course includes Cyborg’s battles outside the UFC, as Rousey had a longer title reign within the world’s most recognized MMA promotion.

Adam Martin - August 12, 2019

Welterweight Mike Perry’s broken nose was arguably not the most gruesome injury suffered at UFC Uruguay. In a flyweight bout on the preliminary card, Rogerio Bontorin delivered a horrible cut to the face of Raulian Paiva, leading to the doctor to stop the fight in the first round. Paiva was obviously upset the fight was stopped, but the doctor made a good call considering how deep the cut was. The cut was in a very vulnerable spot right above his right eye, which would obviously hinder his ability to fight. The day after the fight, the UFC flyweight contender took to social media to thank the doctors for fixing his cut.

Jim Miller and Clay Guida met in the co-main event of UFC Newark in a battle of two lightweight veterans. Miller picked up the win in Newark, setting up a submission by rocking his foe on the feet. Daniel Cormier on future after UFC 241: 'It needs to be something big'

Mike Heck - August 12, 2019

Daniel Cormier is days away from defending his UFC heavyweight championship against Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 241. While ‘DC’ is taking things one fight at a time, the rematch against Miocic could very well be the final fight of his storied mixed martial arts career. Cormier has built an incredible legacy throughout his career and will look to knock off the man with the longest heavyweight championship reign in UFC history for a second time on Saturday night in Anaheim, Calif. If Cormier is successful, he certainly isn’t slamming the door on his career. If the right opportunity comes along, Cormier will be open to keeping his in-the-Octagon career going — although it won’t be for just any fight.

Liz Carmouche welcomes third fight with Valentina Shevchenko

Valentina Shevchenko and Liz Carmouche are now tied 1-1 across two bouts. Carmouche won the first fight, a 2010 encounter, with a controversial cut-related stoppage. Shevchenko won the second fight, which headlined Saturday’s UFC Uruguay card, with a dominant unanimous decision win, retaining her UFC flyweight belt in the process. While this is not the type of rivalry that generally screams trilogy, Liz Carmouche is more than willing to step into the cage with Valentina Shevchenko again to settle their score.
