Shortly following Max Holloway’s impressive stoppage victory over Brian Ortega in the main event of UFC 231, former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen took to Twitter with the following statement.

Current UFC featherweight kingpin Max Holloway set a bunch of records in his impressive UFC 231 victory over Brian Ortega last night in Toronto. “Blessed” put on an absolute clinic in last night’s main event, peppering Brian Ortega with punches for the better part of twenty minutes before doctors were eventually forced to call a stop to the action.

Last night, in the main event of UFC 231 in Toronto, undefeated featherweight contender Brian Ortega stepped into the cage with UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. While Ortega had some real success in his long-awaited title fight with Holloway, he was ultimately thumped severely enough that the cage-side doctor elected to stop the fight between the fourth and fifth rounds. After a post-fight hospital visit, Brian Ortega has now issued a quick statement on this loss to Max Holloway. As always, the California native was the picture of class.

While not everybody agreed with the doctor’s decision to end the fight, UFC President Dana White believes it was the right decision.

Having won the UFC women’s flyweight title with a decision defeat of Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the UFC 231 main event, Valentina Shevchenko can now look ahead to her first title defense. There are some interesting options on the menu with respect to Shevchenko’s first title challenger. From the sounds of it, however, the new champ has no interest in defending her title against the division’s inaugural champion Nicco Montano, who she spent most of 2018 trying to fight.
