Anderson Silva: I don’t think I can beat Jon Jones

Anderson Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC) is set to defend his UFC middleweight championship against undefeated challenger Chris Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) live this Saturday night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Even with the hype surrounding this weekends UFC 162 main event, fans and media alike are still hoping for a potential ‘Super fight’ involving “The Spider” and either UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones or welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre in the near future.

The longtime middleweight champion recently spoke about fighting the younger 205-pound champion, here is what Anderson had to say while speaking without a translator and in English:

“Jon Jones, in his class, is the best. If I fight Jon Jones, I don’t think I’m going to win.”

“Jon Jones is different. He’s large. He’s young. But, in the fight, I see in Jon Jones, I see myself from a long time ago. He’s very smart.” 

Silva was asked in what areas he might have an advantage over Jones, he answered by saying the following:

“I don’t know, in my opinion, Spider has more experience than Jon Jones, but that’s the only advantage.”

Anderson, who remains undefeated after 16 appearances in the octagon, is a 2-to-1 favorite to beat the undefeated Chris Weidman this weekend at UFC 162. If “The Spider” is able to defend his title for the 11th time on Saturday night, it sounds unlikely that a super fight with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones would be in his future.
