Brown: ‘Beating Hendricks Is The Key To A Title Shot’

Matt ‘The Immortal’ Brown is currently coming off of a hard fought decision loss to Robbie Lawler. The loss snapped a 7 fight win streak for Brown, and cost him a shot at the welterweight title, which Lawler went on to win.

On March 14th, Matt Brown will have the chance to earn a #1 contender spot when he faces former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks at UFC 185.

In Brown’s eyes, a win over Hendricks guarantees him a shot at the welterweight strap.

He spoke to MMAJunkie to voice his opinion:

“Beat Johny Hendricks, I don’t think it takes much more than that (to get a title shot). I beat him and I don’t see a reason why it wouldn’t be me and Robbie again.”

Since Rory MacDonald’s bout against Hector Lombard was scrapped as a result of Lombard’s failed drug test for PEDs, there has been much talk regarding MacDonald getting a title shot against Robbie Lawler, with the winner facing the winner of Brown vs. Hendricks. Matt Brown doesn’t care who the champion is.

“I don’t care who wins either way because Robbie already beat both of us. I think I did better against him than Rory did. I guess if you put some MMA math together, I have a better chance of beating Rory. I’m focused on Johny. He’s one of the toughest guys out there. He’s a former champion. I need to worry about him and whatever happens after that is going to take care of itself.”
