Browne Considers Upcoming Opponent A Hero
Heavyweights Travis Browne and Andrei Arlovski are set to duke it out in a slugfest at “UFC 187”. After the gate shuts, they are contracted to try and knock each other’s blocks off. However, leading into the fight Browne has admitted that he admires Arlovski’s warrior code.
Browne was in Arlovski’s corner during his bout with Anthony Johnson at World Series of Fighting in New Jersey. Johnson punched Arlovski so hard in the opening round that his jaw broke and was lodged further into his mouth. Browne mentioned that the fact that Arlovski fought through the pain and actually won the final round made him admire him even more.
“When he fought Anthony Johnson, in between rounds, I went over and picked his tooth up off the mat because he broke his jaw… When you’re that close with somebody, you’re sharing a piece of that person. That’s him as a warrior,” Browne said. “I saw him in the back afterwards, and I’m like “you’re my hero right now. You’re my f—— hero.”
Once Arlovski made the switch to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Browne and Arlovksi were prepared for the day that their paths would cross. In the stacked heavyweight division, Browne knew it was inevitable. “Before he signed with the UFC, I said, ‘we may as well make some money doing what we’re doing in the gym, you know?’ He said, ‘okay, only for the title or big money.’ I said, ‘either way, it doesn’t matter to me. we’re punching each other in the face anyway.’ So let’s go out there and put on a show.”
