Carlos Condit Fires Back At All The Title Fight Criticism
UFC welterweight and upcoming title challenger Carlos Condit is in a similar position to that of women’s bantamweight Holly Holm, sort of, maybe.
The two were given title shots unexpectedly, after another contender was assumed to be getting the next crack at the belt.
In Condit’s situation that was Johny Hendricks. The former champ, Hendricks, was assumed to be fighting Lawler for the third time in what would be a rubber match. Hendricks expected it to happen, fans were OK with it, seeing as how it made sense. Then the UFC announced ‘The Natural Born Killer’ would instead be fighting Lawler.
Now, fans aren’t as upset as the Holm fight, seeing as how Condit is a fan favorite who brings it every time. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s coming off of a violent finish over Thiago Alves and Lawler is coming off of an even more violent win over Rory MacDonald. But, their are those (Hendricks and others in the WW division) who don’t understand how Condit jumped them and grabbed that shot.
Well, Condit told The MMA Hour that he’s just trying to get his:
“I see where they’re coming from, but, I’m trying to get mine. I’m trying to get big fights and I am not worrying about who it will upset. I don’t think they should be upset with me, they should be upset with who made the decision. I’m trying to get the biggest fights and I’m trying to get the belt around my waist. You’re not going to get to the upper echelon to the sport without stepping on some toes.”
Are you guys happy with the match-up or would you have rather seen Hendricks and Lawler square off for the third time?
Condit will face Lawler at UFC 193 on Nov. 15, 2015, in Melbourne, Australia. Hendricks has locked up a new opponent in Tyron Woodley and it can be assumed that the winner of that would then meet for the title next. Although, this is the UFC which means anything and everything is possible.
How do you feel about the UFC’s recent decisions, Gustafsson fighting for title after being KO’d, Holm getting the shot over Tate with 2-0 record in the UFC and Condit jumping Hendricks to take on Lawler?
