Chael Sonnen Opens As Slight Betting Favorite Over ‘Shogun’ Rua

By BJPENN.COM News - July 1, 2013

The mouth of the UFC, Chael Sonnen, not only walked into another high-profile fight as a light-heavyweight, but now oddsmakers are picking him as the favorite to beat Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua in the UFC on FS 1 inaugural event in Boston.

The two fighters will face off in the main event set for August 17 at the TD Garden.

Chael Sonnen, a perennial middleweight, last saw action in a 205 pound title fight against Jon Jones. However, his latest stint in the division wasn’t the only time to Oregon native went up in weight. Sonnen fought and defeated Trevor Prangley at UFC Fight Night 4 in 2006, but that was his last win in the division.

Apparently that lone victory 7-years ago was enough for at least some odds makers to give him a slight edge over the former division champ in Shogun.

The line is:
Sonnen: -139
Rua: +100
