CM Punk compares ‘slimy’ WWE to ‘romantic’ UFC
Phil “CM Punk” Brooks’ signing with the Ultimate Fighting Championship took both the MMA world and professional wrestling world by surprise. Even though the fighter has yet to step foot in a cage professionally, he will be making his debut on the grandest stage of them all in an octagon.
Despite what fans say about how the UFC is operated, the politics behind the scenes pale in comparison to what goes on behind the curtain at WWE. Punk recently sat down with Rolling Stone and shared his thoughts on exactly why he favors the backstage environment of WWE over UFC:
“For the longest time [in] what I did, the competition wasn’t that clean-cut,” he reflects on his WWE tenure. “It didn’t matter if you were the best. There’s slimy backstage politics, there’s always somebody trying to undercut you. To me, there’s something romantic about just you and another guy locked inside a cage and the better man wins. In that time and space, nothing else matters. I definitely think it can be fucking scary, but I like embracing the things that scare me.”
Who do you think Punk will face in his octagon debut? Will it be a well known fighter, or will he square off with somebody on his level? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
