Coach: Matt Brown and Clay Guida will join TJ Dillashaw at Elevation Fight Team
Team Alpha Male lost one of their most prolific champions earlier this week when TJ Dillashaw made the jump to Elevation Fight Team in Colorado. It turns out Dillashaw won’t be the only major UFC fighter to make the move to The Centennial State, afterall.
Dillashaw will be joined by “The Immortal” Matt Brown and Clay Guida, two fighters who are teetering on the brink of title contention. The three new additions will be joining the likes of Cat Zingano and Neil Magny in the new state of the art MusclePharm gym.
Head coach Leister Bowling spoke highly of Brown’s previous training, but thinks Colorado was the right place for the next step of Brown’s career. “[Brown] has great training and great coaches back home [in Ohio], too,” Bowling told MMA Fighting. “But the training partners for him, I think he was just looking for a place where he knew every day he was gonna have somebody to train with.”
Even though a bit of drama surrounds Dillashaw’s split from Team Alpha Male, it has most to do with the riff between Urijah Faber and former TAM Head Coach Duane “Bang” Ludwig (who now serves as a striking coach at Elevation). Bowling wants to make it clear that he is not recruiting fighters from other gyms; He wants to give his love to all of the UFC fighters on his team.
“Our doors are always open to anybody who wants to come train,” Bowling admitted. “But I think the biggest thing Urijah said that’s not true is that I’m trying to actively recruit guys. I don’t want a whole lot of high-level guys. I want to be able to focus on the guys we do have. Right now, I think we have 10 guys in the UFC and I want to be able to give those guys every bit of attention I can.”
Do you think Bowling actively recruited Dillashaw, or was it just an unfortunate series of events for Faber, Dillashaw, Ludwig and Team Alpha Male? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
