Coach: ‘Jones Is Back in the Gym, but UFC Future Uncertain’
Jon Jones has come across some troubled times in the recent months and the happenings of his life outside of the cage may prevent him from making a return. Coach Mike Winkeljohn believes that there is a real possibility the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion never fights again.
“I’m looking forward to Jon turning his life around and becoming a better person,” Winkeljohn told Submission Radio. “Is he fighting again or not? I’m not sure. That’s not important. What is important right now is that Jon takes care of himself and his family.”
When asked if there was a possibility Jones would never return, he responded, “Oh yeah. To us, the most important thing is Jon Jones. Everybody seems to forget other things but at the end of the day it’s for Jon Jones to become the best person he can. The fighter is secondary. We lose sight of it. There’s a possibility that he might not fight. There’s a possibility that he might fight. I know right now he’s staying busy helping others in the gym. That’s very important.”
Jon Jones has been keeping busy in the gym. While he may not be training for a return to the octagon himself, he has been helping his teammates hone their skills for upcoming fights.
“He was in the gym helping Andrei Arlovski for his fight. He’s in the gym helping others right now. He’s gone back to help others, stopped doing those things that get you in trouble and go forward.”
When do you think we will see Jon Jones back in the octagon, if ever?
