Coach: Third fight with Rousey won’t be healthy for Tate
Miesha Tate scrapped to the final bell against Jessica Eye and picked up the unanimous decision victory. After “UFC on FOX 16’s” conclusion, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Tate was next in line for a shot at the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.
The fate of the title will be decided this Saturday when Ronda Rousey attempts to successfully defend it for the sixth time, this time against Bethe Correia. If “Rowdy” can make it out of the octagon with the gold, she will be fighting Tate for the third time.
Both fights did not end well for “Cupcake” Tate and Rousey’s coach Edmond Tarverdya doesn’t see it ending any different. “I like that fight. I’m real excited for that fight, actually,” he told MMA Fighting. “Because this time I’m going to make sure that Miesha Tate gets really punished and knows what she’s getting into. It’s not gonna be good for her career. She’s gonna get a lot of damage and I’m gonna make sure it’s not healthy for her career.”
Tate has picked up two consecutive wins since her last loss to Rousey and once again sits atop the women’s bantamweight collection of contenders. “I think she does deserve the title shot again,” he said. “And we’re ready. I like that fight. I do like that fight, because she’s still talking crap a little bit and she thinks making it into the third round with Ronda, she thinks she can do better now and go for a decision or something like that. She’s mistaken and we’ll be ready for that fight.”
If Tate meets Rousey a third time, how would she fare against the champion?
