COACHES BREAKDOWN — Serra, Longo Talk Weidman vs. Belfort
UFC 187’s co main-event of the evening will see middleweight champion Chris Weidman defend his belt against Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort in a bout that mixed martial arts fans have been waiting a long time for.
Weidman’s coaches, Ray Longo and Matt Serra, told MMAFighting they think that Weidman will be the alpha-male on Saturday night even though Belfort has taken the charge in his past bouts. “Weidman is the aggressor. If there is an alpha male in those two, it’s Chris Weidman,” said Longo. “He is going to do what he always does, which is go forward, put the pressure on and make it his fight.”
Former UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra doesn’t see the bout going past the third round. “I think he is going to take him out in under three (rounds). I think he is going to break him.”
Belfort will be stepping into the octagon without an exemption for TRT usage, and Longo believes that Weidman now has a decent size advantage walking into the fight. “Weidman looks like he has a pretty noticeable size advantage. Belfort is looking a little old.”
