Conor McGregor Reveals Injury Details — ‘I could barely walk before Mendes fight’
UFC interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor was set to face Jose Aldo back at UFC 189, before the Brazilian pulled out of the fight with a rib injury.
After that, Chad Mendes was given the fight against McGregor, on short notice. They both made it to the cage and duked it out until McGregor stopped him to win the interim strap. Recently, in an interview on The MMA Hour, McGregor revealed the extent of an injury he suffered before the fight, saying that he could not even walk at one point.
“I was injured, I re-injured my leg. I couldn’t walk. I could not walk. There was a period in the camp where I couldn’t even stand up straight. Two weeks before the fight, that was when I was throwing kicks again.”
“The reason it all shaped up like that was because I went travelling the world tour and I got injured on the world tour, training with unfamiliar bodies in a competitive atmosphere. This game breaks you down enough, you must find comfort with your training partners. It’s about making it to contest, keep you body fresh and you mind sharp.”
