Daniel Cormier’s first UFC Light Heavyweight Championship defense was slated to take place in September, but an injury will prevent him from defending the title that soon. Alexander Gustafsson will have to wait for his opportunity to fight for the gold once again.

The injury was confirmed by MMA Junkie with sources close to the situation. UFC officials believe that the injury was minor and Cormier would be ready to fight as soon as October, delaying the title fight by only a month. UFC 192 is set to take place in Houston, Texas on October 3, 2015.

Despite coming off a loss, Gustafsson was chosen by Dana White and matchmakers as the first challenger to Cormier’s newly won championship. Gus suffered a brutal loss to the man that Cormier beat for the title at UFC 187, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.
