Cowboy: I’m coming for that belt

Donald Cerrone has gone 14-3 since joining the UFC ranks in February of 2011.

Cerrone’s 3 losses have come against Nate Diaz, Anthony Pettis and Rafael dos Anjos.

Two of those three men fought in the headlining bout of this past weekend’s UFC 185 event in Dallas (Pettis and dos Anjos).

“Cowboy”, like most of us, was not expecting the one-sided beatdown that took place, as he told MMAFighting.com in a recent interview:

“Not at all,” said Cerrone as transcribed by David St. Martin for MMAFighting.com. “I was more expecting Anthony to do what he does, kick and play. I think he caught Anthony off guard, too.”

“Unbelievable … I’m very impressed. [Dos Anjos] did a very good job of not letting Pettis get his rhythm and stand in the middle of the cage and throw his kicks. He kept him against the cage and got him thinking punch, punch, punch and then shooting for the takedown. Then he secured and held while he was down. It was good.”

Cerrone will fight Khabib Nuragomedov on the main card of May’s UFC 187 event, with the winner expected to receive number one contender’s status for a future fight with dos Anjos.

“Cowboy” is hopeful that after he gets by “The Eagle”, he will eventually get another crack at both “RDA” and “Showtime”:

“I’m never opposed to fighting anybody,” he said. “Fighting, beating [Nurmagomedov], Dos Anjos, then tell Pettis to come on. Come on with it. That’s the new and improved Cowboy. I’m coming for the f—ing belt.”
