Dana White Expects UFC 189 to Set U.S. Gate Record with $7 Million
Jose Aldo may be off the biggest event of the summer, but UFC President Dana White still expects “UFC 189” to demolish the company gate record with $7 million in ticket sales.
Conor McGregor and Chad Mendes have already done a fantastic job at selling the card’s new main event. The two featherweights are set to square off for the interim championship while Aldo nurses his injuries from the sidelines.
“We had to get creative,” UFC Sr. VP Peter Dropic said. “We stayed within the fire code, but we had to get creative. We have seats in some places we’ve never had seats before.”
“We’re adding seats and when we do, they fly right out the door,” White told Yahoo Sports. “We’ve barely had any refunds and the ones we’ve had, as soon as we’ve gotten the tickets and put them back in the system, they’re scooped right up.”
Mendes/McGregor is a bout that doesn’t need much selling for diehard fans of MMA, but will casual fans fork over the money for such a short notice main-event? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
