Dana White on #1 Contender Cat Zingano: She’s Out For a While…
Sara Kaufman expressed interest in fighting #1 ranked Cat Zingano after her decision victory against Leslie Smith. Cat Zingano has been sitting on the sidelines for quite some time now after a tragic year.
Zingano was forced out of her coaching role on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ last year after she suffered a knee injury. Miesha Tate assumed the role as ‘head coach’ which meant Zingano was also out of her title shot against Ronda Rousey. Tragedy struck once again in January 2014 after Zingano lost her husband.
At the post fight press conference, Dana White was quick to shoot down any rumors of the fight happening. He stated, “Cat’s out for a while. Obviously, everybody knows what happened with her knee. Then the other tragedy that happened in her life— she has a lot of stuff to deal with mentally, physically and emotionally.”
Sarah Kaufman had previously lost a decision to Jessica Eye at UFC 166, but the decision was ruled a no-contest after Eye tested positive for marijuana. With a lot of the other women occupied on other fights, a rematch with Eye may be in the future for Kaufman.
