Editorial Spotlight | Dennis Siver Looking For Opportunity As A Featherweight Tomorrow Night
By: Evan Stoumbelis
UFC Lightweight Dennis “The Meanace” Siver (19-8) is moving down to the 145 featherweight division and is set to face Diego “The Gun” Nunes (17-2) at the upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 2 event tomorrow night. Siver was set to have a rematch with Ultimate Fighter winner Ross Pearson at the same event, but with the recent change in weight classes, will be facing Diego Nunes instead.
Diego Nunes doesn’t plan on “Giving an inch” in the division
Siver, a 2 time knockout of the night winner, is a black belt in Taekwondo, and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The recent change in weight classes comes after a loss to Donald Cerrone at UFC 137, which ended Siver’s 4 fight win streak and left the 33 year old to decide whether or not to attempt another run at the lightweight belt.
In his fight against Diego Nunes, we are left to wonder how much of an impact the weight cut will have on the burly Siver.
As of April 7th Diego Nunes was ranked as the #9 Featherweight in the division after beating Manny Gamburyan via unanimous decision at UFC 141.
Dennis Siver may have trouble with a quicker opponent, which is where the recent weight-cut could be a factor, but Diego Nunes, despite his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt, likes to brawl. With a barrage of strikes Siver is by all means an experienced striker, with 4 of his wins coming by way of strikes, and 2 of those by spinning back kicks. Will the weight cut impact Siver’s stand up game? Will he be successful in his run for the featherweight belt? only time will tell.
