Donald Cerrone vs. Adriano Martins set for UFC on FOX 10 in Chicago
Prior to his UFC 167 bout with Evan Dunham, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone had stated that his intention was to move down a weight class (to the UFC’s featherweight division,) following the contest.
However, that apparently will not be the case. As it was announced today that Donald Cerrone (21-6 MMA, 8-3 UFC) will meet Adriano Martins (25-6 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in a lightweight bout when the UFC returns to Chicago on January 25 for UFC on FOX 10.
Cerrone earned “Submission of the night” honors for his triangle choke submission victory over Evan Dunham in their bout a week ago at UFC 167 in Las Vegas. The victory got “Cowboy” back in to the win column, as he was previously defeated by Rafael dos Anjos by way of decision.
Meanwhile, Martins made his UFC debut earlier this month at the UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs. Henderson event in Brazil. Like Cerrone, Adriano Martins also picked up that evenings “Submission of the night” bonus, for his kimura win over Daron Cruickshank. Prior to joining the UFC ranks, Martins fought under the Strikeforce banner, where he earned a decision victory over veteran Jorge Gurgel.
UFC on FOX 10 goes down January 25 from the United Centre in Chicago. The event is headlined by a lightweight contest between former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and former Strikeforce title holder Josh Thomson.
