“Doomsday” Howard is hungry for return to the octagon

John “Doomsday” Howard’s time in the UFC has been a roller-coaster ride, to say the least. Back in 2010, Howard was viewed by many as the next big thing in the welterweight division when he racked up four wins in a row over lower-tier talent. When he stepped up in competition, however, “Doomsday” suffered three losses in a row before getting cut.

Howard made his return to the company when he stepped in to face Uriah Hall at “UFC Fight Night: Sonnen vs Shogun” where he racked up an upset victory. He has gone 2-3 since that loss, but is coming off a much needed win over Cathal Pendred.

“It lets me know that I still belong there. Sometimes when you lose, it affects your confidence,” Howard told Fox Sports. “I proved to myself that I can still fight with the best. It wasn’t even a spectacular win, but it was definitely a solid win. Now, I want to go in there and win in a way that really showcases my talent, and shows my true skill.”

“All I can do is train hard and show up and fight,” Howard continued. “We prepared well, and I believe I can win. But it’s my job to fight, that’s it. I can’t control everything. Not everyone can get to the top. I still believe I can, but even if I don’t, I’m happy with what I’ve done in the sport.”

Howard will step into the octagon once again to meet Tim Means at “UFC Fight Night 80” in December. “I think it’s kind of a technique vs. power fight,” Howard said of his opponent’s style compared to his. “Although he’s got power, and I’m pretty technical, I’ve got a power advantage, and he’s a little bit slicker.”
