Faber Not Thrilled With Idea Of Assuncao Bout
Urijah Faber is arguably the best UFC fighter to never win a championship. Throughout his career, Faber has never lost a non-title fight, and with his teammate and close friend, TJ Dillashaw as the UFC’s bantamweight champion, it is unlikely that Faber will get another crack that the bantamweight strap anytime soon.
With Raphael Assuncao on a 7 fight win streak, after his win over Bryan Caraway he began calling for a title shot against TJ Dillashaw for his next fight, however with the return of Dominick Cruz, Dillashaw will be fighting him next. This leaves both Assuncao and Faber without opponents.
Faber spoke to MMAMania about a potential bout saying:
“Fighting Raphael Assuncao isn’t that exciting to me. I have nothing against him, he’s a good guy and a good fighter. I just think there are other challenges out there that could be better for me. I mean, if Assuncao was a fight the UFC wanted, I wouldn’t say no to it. I’ve never said no to any fight the UFC has asked of me. It’s not a fight I’d lobby for. Right now I’m willing to wait and see what comes up.”
It is worth noting that Faber has already fought, and defeated Assuncao, back in 2010 under the WEC banner.
