George Roop vs. Francisco Rivera set for UFC 166 in Houston

By Chris Taylor - August 5, 2013

Over the weekend, UFC officials announced that a bantamweight bout between George Roop (14-9-1 MMA, 4-5 UFC) and Francisco Rivera (9-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is the latest addition to an already stacked UFC 166 card.

George Roop will be looking to continue his momentum and make it three wins in a row when he faces Rivera this October. Roop is coming off a huge upset victory over Brian Bowles in May, stopping the former WEC champion with a second round TKO.

Meanwhile, Rivera will be looking for his fifth straight win overall. The WEC veteran most recently scored a TKO win over Edwin Figueroa at UFC 156. Prior to that, Rivera had defeated Canadian bantamweight Roland Delorme. However, that fight was eventually ruled a no-contest after Francisco failed a drug test due to an over-the-counter stimulant.

UFC 166 takes place October 19 live from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following the prelims which air on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook. The event is headlined by a trilogy bout featuring current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez taking on former champion Junior dos Santos.
